Hopes and Dreams (from Manchester to Ramallah)
Schoolchildren from Palestine’s occupied territories took part in a project that linked them to children in Greater Manchester. The schoolchildren from Benchill Primary in Wythenshawe and The Evangelical Lutheran School of Hope in Ramallah, interacted through a project intended to foster links and gain an understanding of the lives of their counterparts.
The project encouraged both sets of pupils to consider a broad range of topics set outside their own personal experiences. Each set of pupils initially explored (through drawings), their immediate environment, likes, dislikes, hopes and aspirations, the results being transferred onto ceramic tiles made by the schoolchildren in each location. The experience was captured digitally and culminated in a free standing artwork, eventually being sited in the grounds of the Imperial War Museum North (IWMN).
